Launching and logging in to the SilverStripe CMS
Once a website has been created for you or your company, you will be able to edit the pages of that site using the SilverStripe CMS. To access the SilverStripe CMS, you will need a username and password issued to you by the SilverStripe web designer.
The first step is to launch your internet browser (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or above). There are a number of different ways to launch the browser application, but we will simply use the “Start” menu…
- Click on the Start button

The home page selected for the browser application will be displayed…
The next step is to load the website created for you. For this, you will need to know the URL of the website; that is, the web address for the site, such as http://www.yoursite.com/silverstripe (for more information on URLs, refer to Page URLs)… - Click in the Address field at the top of the browser window
This will highlight the current web address and enable you to type in your website address…
- Type in the address for your website
You don’t actually need to type the “http://” part of the address, as the browser will automatically assume that this is the protocol that you want to use…
- Press [Enter] or click on
to load the website
The first time you access the SilverStripe CMS website, you will be required to log in…
- Click in the Email address field and type the email address provided to you by the website designer
- Press [Tab] to move to the Password field and type in the password provided to you by the website designer
to login and launch the SilverStripe CMS
Your website will be displayed in the CMS window…
- To reset a password, refer to Adding A Member To A Group).
- When you enter your login details, ensure that Remember me next time is selected so that future activations of SilverStripe CMS will not ask you to login again. This is because the login information is then stored in a cookie and the CMS will be launched automatically. However, if you delete your cookies, you will be asked to re-enter your login details (for more information on cookies, refer to the Glossary).
